Iljitsch van Beijnum, «Running IPv6»

Iljitsch van Beijnum, «Running IPv6»
Apress | ISBN 1590595270 | 2005 Year | PDF | 3 Mb | 288 Pages

Running IPv6 explains how to install and operate the IPv6 protocol for Windows XP, Mac OS X, FreeBSD, Red Hat Linux, and Cisco routers. The book also covers DNS and BIND, Zebra, Apache 2, and Sendmail. While IPv4 uses 32-bit addresses, IPv6 addresses are 128 bits long, and allow for more unique addresses. While the adoption of IPv6 won't be immediate, it is necessary.
Running IPv6 compares and contrasts IPv6 to IPv4, and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of each. Because most major software and hardware vendors have (or will) adopt IPv6, the focus of this book is to leverage your existing knowledge of IPv4 and to help you apply that knowledge to the newer protocol.

Computational Methods for Counterterrorism

Shlomo Argamon, Newton Howard "Computational Methods for Counterterrorism"
Springer Berlin Heidelberg | English | 2009-07-01 | ISBN: 3642011403 | 306 pages | PDF | 6,6 MB

Modern terrorist networks pose an unprecedented threat to international security. The question of how to neutralize that threat is complicated radically by their fluid, non-hierarchical structures, religious and ideological motivations, and predominantly non-territorial objectives. Governments and militaries are crafting new policies and doctrines to combat terror, but they desperately need new technologies to make these efforts effective.

This book collects a wide range of the most current computational research that addresses critical issues for countering terrorism, including:

Finding, summarizing, and evaluating relevant information from large and changing data stores;

Simulating and predicting enemy acts and outcomes; and

Producing actionable intelligence by finding meaningful patterns hidden in huge amounts of noisy data.

The book’s four sections describe current research on discovering relevant information buried in vast amounts of unstructured data; extracting meaningful information from digitized documents in multiple languages; analyzing graphs and networks to shed light on adversaries’ goals and intentions; and developing software systems that enable analysts to model, simulate, and predict the effects of real-world conflicts.

The research described in this book is invaluable reading for governmental decision-makers designing new policies to counter terrorist threats, for members of the military, intelligence, and law enforcement communities devising counterterrorism strategies, and for researchers developing more effective methods for knowledge discovery in complicated and diverse datasets.

The First Computers--History and Architectures

The First Computers--History and Architectures (History of Computing)
The MIT Press | ISBN: 0262681374 | August 7, 2002 | PDF | 471 Pages | 5 Mb

This history of computing focuses not on chronology (what came first and who deserves credit for it) but on the actual architectures of the first machines that made electronic computing a practical reality. The book covers computers built in the United States, Germany, England, and Japan. It makes clear that similar concepts were often pursued simultaneously and that the early researchers explored many architectures beyond the von Neumann architecture that eventually became canonical. The contributors include not only historians but also engineers and computer pioneers. An introductory chapter describes the elements of computer architecture and explains why "being first" is even less interesting for computers than for other areas of technology. The essays contain a remarkable amount of new material, even on well-known machines, and several describe reconstructions of the historic machines. These investigations are of more than simply historical interest, for architectures designed to solve specific problems in the past may suggest new approaches to similar problems in today's machines.

RTL Hardware Design Using VHDL: Coding for Efficiency, Portability, and Scalability (ReUp)

Pong P. Chu, "RTL Hardware Design Using VHDL: Coding for Efficiency, Portability, and Scalability"
Wiley-IEEE Press (April 14, 2006) | ISBN-10: 0471720925 | 694 Pages | PDF | 27,2 MB

The skills and guidance needed to master RTL hardware design

This book teaches readers how to systematically design efficient, portable, and scalable Register Transfer Level (RTL) digital circuits using the VHDL hardware description language and synthesis software. Focusing on the module-level design, which is composed of functional units, routing circuit, and storage, the book illustrates the relationship between the VHDL constructs and the underlying hardware components, and shows how to develop codes that faithfully reflect the module-level design and can be synthesized into efficient gate-level implementation.

Several unique features distinguish the book:
* Coding style that shows a clear relationship between VHDL constructs and hardware components
* Conceptual diagrams that illustrate the realization of VHDL codes
* Emphasis on the code reuse
* Practical examples that demonstrate and reinforce design concepts, procedures, and techniques
* Two chapters on realizing sequential algorithms in hardware
* Two chapters on scalable and parameterized designs and coding
* One chapter covering the synchronization and interface between multiple clock domains

Although the focus of the book is RTL synthesis, it also examines the synthesis task from the perspective of the overall development process. Readers learn good design practices and guidelines to ensure that an RTL design can accommodate future simulation, verification, and testing needs, and can be easily incorporated into a larger system or reused. Discussion is independent of technology and can be applied to both ASIC and FPGA devices.

With a balanced presentation of fundamentals and practical examples, this is an excellent textbook for upper-level undergraduate or graduate courses in advanced digital logic. Engineers who need to make effective use of today's synthesis software and FPGA devices should also refer to this book.

All you need to know about Storage Area Networks

The amount of data of an average company doubles every year. Thus, companies who own 1TB of data today will own 32TB in five years. Storage networks help to tame such data quantities and to manage this data growth efficiently. Since stored data and information are the biggest asset of any company, anyone who is involved in the planning or the operation of IT systems requires a basic knowledge of the principle and the use of storage networks.

Storage Networks Explained covers the fundaments, techniques and functions of storage networks such as disk subsystems, Fibre Channel SAN, Internet SCSI (iSCSI), Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), Network Attached Storage (NAS), file systems, and storage virtualization. Furthermore the authors describe the use of these techniques and how they are designed to achieve high-availability, flexibility, and scalability of data and applications. Additional attention is given to network backup and the management of storage networks. Written by leading experts in the field, this book on storage area networks is updated and fully revised.

Key features:
• Presents the basic concepts of storage networks, such as I/O techniques, disk subsystems, virtualization, NAS and SAN file systems

Soil Physics with BASIC

Soil Physics with BASIC
Gaylon S. Campbell | ISBN: 0444425578 | PDF | 167 pages | English | 7 MB

This book covers material taught in a graduate-level soil physics course at Washington State University. While most soil physics courses dwell mainly on deriving rather than solving the differential equations for transport, the author's approach is to focus on solutions. Graduate students in agricultural and biological sciences usually have a good working knowledge of algebra and calculus, but not of differential equations. In order to teach methods for solving very difficult differential equations with difficult boundary conditions using fairly simple mathematical tools, the author uses numerical procedures on microcomputers to solve the differential equations. Numerical methods convert differential equations into algebraic equations which can be solved using conventional methods of linear algebra. This book reflects the philosophy used in the course. Each chapter introduces soil physics concepts, generally in the conventional way. Most chapters then go on to develop simple computer programs to solve the equations and illustrate the points made in the discussion. Problems at the end of each chapter help the reader practice using the concepts introduced in the chapter.

"Origins and Successors of the Compact Disc: Contributions of Philips to Optical Storage"

Springer | English | 2009-02-27 | ISBN: 140209552X | 316 pages | PDF | 29,6 MB

In March 1979, a prototype of a ‘Compact Disc (CD) digital audio system’ was publicly presented and demonstrated to an audience of about 300 journalists at Philips in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. This milestone effectively marked the beginning of the digital entertainment era. In the years to follow, the CD-audio system became an astonishing worldwide success, and was followed by successful derivatives such as CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD, and recently Blu-ray Disc. Today, around the thirtieth anniversary of the milestone, it is taken for granted that media content is stored and distributed digitally, and the analog era seems long gone. This book retraces the origins of the CD system and the subsequent evolution of digital optical storage, with a focus on the contributions of Philips to this field. The book contains perspectives on the history and evolution of optical storage, along with reproductions of key technical contributions of Philips to the field.

OReilly Verlag | 06-2008 | ISBN: 3897217791 | 45 MB | PDF | Scan | 257 Seiten | German

Note : Das zentrale Prinzip: Redundanz, Redundanz, Redundanz

Gemäß dem Motto "If we can manage it, it's a resource" tragen Sie in der zentralen Cluster Information Base (CIB) alle Dienste ein und legen Verknüpfungen fest.

The Illustrated Network: How TCP/IP Works in a Modern Network

The Illustrated Network: How TCP/IP Works in a Modern Network
Walter Goralski | ISBN: 0123745411 | PDF | 830 pages | English | 9 MB

A brilliant and unfettered look at modern networking, this book is the true descendant of Richard Stevens' seminal work, TCP/IP Illustrated.

"This book provides a diverse and solid foundation that will be
immensely beneficial to new network engineers, those looking for a
refresher or developers"
-- Alan Young, Google, Network Surveillance Team

"i haven't had time to read the manuscript completely. however, what i like about the book is it covers all the topics from basics to voip to mpls vpn to ssl and this is one of the key factor that separates this book. unlike other tcp/ip books which talk mostly about history this one talks about what is happening today. another great thing i like is the use of diagram and tools."
-- Amit KT, Network Engineer, Peak Web Consulting, SF, CA

"It looks like a very good primer for someone who is about to get serious about working in the networking field. The book describes several things that we take for granted like standards organizations. But if you are new to the industry it is good to be educated about how we arrive at standards."

Essential Linux Device Drivers

Essential Linux Device Drivers
Sreekrishnan Venkateswaran | ISBN: 0132396556 | PDF | 850 pages | English | 8 MB

The Most Practical Guide to Writing Linux Device Drivers

Linux now offers an exceptionally robust environment for driver development: with today’s kernels, what once required years of development time can be accomplished in days. In this practical, example-driven book, one of the world’s most experienced Linux driver developers systematically demonstrates how to develop reliable Linux drivers for virtually any device. Essential Linux Device Drivers is for any programmer with a working knowledge of operating systems and C, including programmers who have never written drivers before. Sreekrishnan Venkateswaran focuses on the essentials, bringing together all the concepts and techniques you need, while avoiding topics that only matter in highly specialized situations. Venkateswaran begins by reviewing the Linux 2.6 kernel capabilities that are most relevant to driver developers. He introduces simple device classes; then turns to serial buses such as I2C and SPI; external buses such as PCMCIA, PCI, and USB; video, audio, block, network, and wireless device drivers; user-space drivers; and drivers for embedded Linux–one of today’s fastest growing areas of Linux development. For each, Venkateswaran explains the technology, inspects relevant kernel source files, and walks through developing a complete example.
